Editorial Standards
Truth Computing Media labels every piece of content by category so readers always know what they are reading. These are the four categories we use, and how they differ.
Reporting
Original, on-the-ground journalism grounded in primary evidence — field observation, on-record interviews, and documented sources. Reporting reflects our newsroom's independent findings, not the views of any outside party.
Analysis
Fact-based interpretation of events or data by our editorial team, clearly labeled as Analysis. Analysis draws conclusions from evidence but is distinct from straight Reporting, and is never commissioned or paid for by an outside party.
Commentary
Opinion or perspective pieces, clearly labeled as Commentary. Commentary reflects the views of its author and is never presented as, or mixed with, Reporting.
Sponsored / Partner Content
Content produced in partnership with, or paid for by, an outside organization. Sponsored and Partner content is always visibly labeled as such at the top of the piece, is produced separately from our independent reporting, and never implies an endorsement by our reporters.
Technology desk labels and rules
Every Technology piece carries one of four labels. Reporting and Analysis mean what they mean everywhere on this site. The desk adds two:
- Essay
- A clearly labeled argument, reflection, or first-person piece. Essays follow the same rules as Commentary: they state the author’s view and are never presented as Reporting.
- Interview
- A direct conversation conducted by Truth Computing Media, published with the participant’s name and role, the date, the format, and a note on how the conversation was edited.
- Profiles of researchers and engineers are labeled “based on public work” unless we interviewed the person. We never describe a profile, a public talk, or a paper as an interview.
- First-person pieces separate what the author saw directly from what they infer and from broader claims, which carry sources. They speak for the author only, never for a university, lab, or employer.
- Research-heavy pieces list their papers and sources in a numbered Sources & Papers section, cited inline.
- Every chart and diagram states its source or is labeled conceptual. Each has a text description, and charts include their data as a table.
- Forecasts, frontier-AI claims, and speculative economics carry a Limitations section.
- Any piece that discusses Truth Computing, its products such as Clientlyy, or an industry it works in carries a disclosure above the article.
Independence from Truth Computing
Truth Computing Media is built and technically maintained by Truth Computing, a separate applied-AI company that shares an origin and founding team with this newsroom. Editorial decisions — what we report, how we label it, and any correction we issue — are made independently by Truth Computing Media's newsroom. See our relationship to Truth Computing for more.
Sourcing & Verification
We prioritize firsthand footage, on-record interviews, and documented primary sources. Where a claim cannot be independently verified, we say so explicitly rather than presenting it as fact. We do not publish fabricated statistics, endorsements, testimonials, or partnerships, and we do not imply institutional endorsement by any university or organization our staff may be affiliated with.
Audience Metrics
Any audience number we publish (for example, total people reached) is drawn from internal, documented, cross-platform media records covering our founders' prior independent reporting and distribution work — not self-reported estimates. We label it "reached" rather than "followers" because it reflects cumulative reach across platforms and posts, not a single subscriber count. Every published figure is paired with the platform(s) it covers and the date it was last checked. YouTube subscriber, view, and video counts are copied from the channel's About panel on YouTube; the video count includes Shorts. Numbers we have not yet verified against first-party platform analytics are not published.
Conflicts of Interest
Truth Computing Media shares founders and an origin with Truth Computing, a separate applied-AI company — see our relationship to Truth Computing. Our founders' prior professional experience (civic, campaign, and corporate work) is disclosed on the Founders page rather than left implicit. When a reporter or contributor has a personal, financial, or professional connection to the subject of a story, we disclose it in that story rather than declining to report on it silently.
AI Use
We build editorial and verification tooling that uses data and, in some cases, AI/ML — for research assistance, transcription, and source organization. AI tools do not generate our reporting, do not fabricate quotes, footage, or sources, and do not stand in for on-the-record interviews or field verification. Any AI-assisted step in producing a specific piece is disclosed in that piece's evidence drawer, not left unstated.
Photo / Video Manipulation
We do not alter the substantive content of published photographs or footage — no adding, removing, or moving elements within a frame, and no misrepresenting when or where footage was captured. Standard editorial adjustments (cropping, color and exposure correction, cutting footage for length) are permitted; anything beyond that is disclosed alongside the piece.
Funding / Independence Disclosures
Truth Computing Media's technology and hosting are provided by Truth Computing, a separate applied-AI company that shares founders with this newsroom (see Relationship to Truth Computing). Beyond that arrangement, Truth Computing Media does not currently have outside investors, advertisers, or sponsors. If that changes, any funding source that could reasonably affect our editorial independence will be disclosed here and, where directly relevant, in the affected story.
